Short description

Discover a truly hidden and surprising place of Transylvania, the Vargyas canyon located in the Perşani Mountains, part of the Eastern Carpathians mountain range. Walk through the 4 km long rock passage and visit one of the 100 caves registered in the protected area of the canyon together with your experienced local guide. The trail goes along numerous wooden suspension bridges set above the Varghis stream which makes this trip even more exciting and fun, especially for children. At the end of the trip visit a local young family which turned a 100 year old authentic barn into an artisan cheese atelier and taste their locally produced cheese and diary products in Homoródalmás (Mereşti) village. Those craving for more adrenaline, can try out even rock climbing on the walls of the canyon. Optionally even picnic in nature from local products may be included in the program. Numbers are limited for a more personalized, small-group experience.

Testimonials about the tour

“Wonderfull hike and excellent cheese tasting!” : We did the Vargyas canyon hike. Best trip of our holiday. Really good guide! We recommend this!! It is 45 min/ one hour drive from Brasov. (Claudia from the Netherlands in 2018)

Fantastic experience...our whole family (including three elementary school boys) loved it! From start to finish, Carpathian Escapes handled everything beautifully and made our hike the highlight of our trip! (Erin from the USA in 2018)

“Excellent walk”My partner and I did this walk in early April. The drive to the visitor station was suited for a 4wd car, however, we managed to get there in our little Renault. They supplied us with waterproof boots and walking poles which was a great help. Waterproof footwear is a must!! Finally, the walk is amazing. Very beautiful and we got told of many stories relating to the caves.
Definitely recommend! (Vincent from New Zealand in 2018)
